The Relationships That Keep Freight Moving

Logistics Is Built on Relationships

In the logistics industry, moving freight requires constant coordination between multiple people and organizations. However, it's easy to overlook the work that’s happening behind the scenes. That's where strong relationships between transportation partners become especially important. These partnerships are built through consistent performance, communication, and mutual respect—not just business transactions.

The People Behind Every Shipment

Compared to traditional truckload shipping, intermodal transportation involves more steps and coordination between multiple parties. A single intermodal shipment can involve several handoffs before reaching its final destination, with each step relying on different people working together to keep freight moving.

From the shipper preparing the freight and the drayage driver transporting it to the rail terminal to the railroad employees managing its movement and the receiving team coordinating final delivery, every person plays an important role. Behind the scenes, logistics coordinators and dispatchers manage schedules, provide updates, and address challenges along the way.

Each handoff depends on accurate information, timely updates, and effective coordination. Even small interactions can make a difference in keeping shipments on schedule and preventing unnecessary disruptions.

Why Strong Partnerships Matter When Challenges Arise

Established relationships make it easier to adapt and find solutions when unexpected challenges arise throughout the transportation process. However, these relationships are a two-way street. Everyone involved must demonstrate accountability, reliability, and flexibility to maintain successful partnerships.

Strong partnerships can also create new opportunities. For example, we’re working with a large retailer to fill an existing backhaul lane and reposition equipment for reloading in Los Angeles. If successful, the arrangement could provide the retailer with additional capacity during a high-demand season while creating additional freight opportunities for Knichel. It could also improve equipment utilization and reduce empty miles, benefiting everyone involved.

Ultimately, strong partnerships are about more than simply knowing the right people. They're about having the experience, trust, and willingness to work together to find solutions that benefit everyone involved.

What We're Thankful for at Knichel Logistics

Knichel Logistics places tremendous value on our relationships with customers, carriers, and transportation partners. As a non-asset-based intermodal marketing company (IMC), reliability and accountability are among the most valuable assets we have to offer. Our core value, Customer Obsessed, is something the Knichel Logistics team embodies every day. We pride ourselves on being just a phone call away when challenges arise throughout the shipping process.

From the drivers and railroad personnel moving freight to the customers who trust us with their shipments and the employees coordinating everything behind the scenes, everyone plays an important role in what we do. These contributions make our work possible, and we're grateful for them every day.

Moving Forward Together

This year, our company is on track to have our most successful year on record. We wouldn't be in this position without the people and partnerships that have supported us along the way.

As we look ahead to the new year, we're reminded that successful transportation goes beyond moving freight from one place to another. It's about the people behind every handoff, the trust built over time, and the willingness to work together when challenges arise.

This holiday season, we're especially thankful for everyone who plays a part in keeping freight moving, and we look forward to continuing to strengthen these relationships in the years ahead.
